Who are these people?
For the most part, I don't know. Ancestors, friends of ancestors. . . charming and enigmatic all.
These mid-19th century photographs were given to me by my grandmother, who doesn't know who these people are either.
I wrote a series of prose poems about them that was published as the chapbook Obscura: The Daguerreotype Series. Several of the prose poems (#2, 3, 15 & 18) are included here with the photos. Click on a number in the archive list below to see each corresponding photograph.
